Auditions

A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS – a new holiday tradition featuring the talented musicians and actors from Chapel Hill School of Musical Arts to benefit a charity helping children.  This year, we will be raising money for Ronald McDonald House – Chapel Hill, a charity that provides care for families in life-altering moments, days and months that children spend in area hospitals. The House offers affordable lodging, physical comfort and emotional support through programs dedicated to the well-being of the whole family.

There is no tuition or charge to participate in this special benefit.  Ronald McDonald House is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so its a great way to get community service hours towards school or club requirements! Participants must be a current student at CHSMA.

Final rehearsal schedule will depend on cast member availability, but is tentatively scheduled to meet two weekday evenings a week (approximately 5 – 8 PM).
Performs two shows on Saturday, December 14th.

Auditions will be held at the Chapel Hill School of Musical Arts
1829 E Franklin St #500
Chapel Hill, NC 27514

FAQ:

Q. What is this show about?  A. Based off of the classic television special “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, the play follows the cast of Peanuts and Charlie Brown’s search for the true meaning of Christmas.  The play will also feature holiday music performed by CHSMA students.

Q. What is the time commitment?  A. We are conservatively planning on two weekday rehearsals a week for actors (excluding Thanksgiving Week) from 5PM – 8PM.  Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal.  Musician groups will coordinate their rehearsal time based on mutual availability.  Musicians and actors will be required to attend a full dress rehearsal shortly before the performance date and will need to be available all day on Saturday, December 14th for both performances.

Q. What are the chances of me being cast/selected?  A. If you’re interested, we want you to audition.  You do not need previous performance experience or a perfect audition to be considered.

Q. May I audition both as an actor and musician?  A. Yes!  That said, you may need to sign up for (and attend) two audition times.  Zack is running the acting auditions.  Sharon Szymanski is in charge of the music auditions.  If you wish to audition for both, please email zcook@chsma.com as he may be able to schedule you for a time where both he and Sharon can observe.

Q. You mentioned musical acts.  Can I audition with other musicians I’d like to work with?  A. Yes!  If you have a group of peers that would like to perform together, you may audition together (or audition separately and note your desire to work together on your audition paperwork).

Q. Who is running the show? A. CHSMA’s talented acting instructor Zachary Cook will be directing this production.  Sharon Szymanski will serve as Music Director, Salome Sandoval will serve as Student Musician Coordinator, and Melissa Dombrowski will manage the production and help with turning the lights off and on again.

Q.  I have more questions.  Who do I contact?  A.  Zachary Cook.  His email is zcook@chsma.com.
