Gretchen Hoag began playing the piano when she was 6. She studied at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Music, major in piano performance, from Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio, and a Master of Music in piano performance and pedagogy from Meredith College. Gretchen has been teaching piano in Chapel Hill for 10 years. She is a member and former treasurer of the Chapel Hill Music Teachers Association. She is also active as a collaborative pianist in the Chapel Hill/Durham area. She believes that the most important aspect of piano lessons is teaching her students to love and enjoy music through playing the piano, regardless of age or skill level. She tailors lessons to the individual needs of each student, with an emphasis on making lessons and practicing a positive experience.
