Faculty Bio

Meris Robinson received her Bachelor's of Music in Voice Performance from Oberlin Conservatory (OH), her first Masters of Music in Opera Theater from Oberlin Conservatory, and her second Masters of Music in Voice Performance from UNCG. Having received excellent vocal pedagogy training at both institutions, she has a strong background in the teaching of voice. While her degrees are in classical singing, Meris has also received specialized training in contemporary and musical theatre vocal styles and has a large amount of experience teaching students in these genres. Meris is passionate about helping her students improve their vocal skills through lessons that are energetic, fun, challenging, and motivational. Her students learn healthy vocal technique that makes singing feel easier and sound more beautiful and expressive. Her performing resume is also impressive; she has done over 20 leading roles in opera and theater and has won a number of singing awards at the state and regional level. In addition, she has also received specialized training in piano, guitar, cello, Alexander Technique, acting, and dance. Her experience and training gives her insight into helping her students become well-rounded singers, musicians, performers, and actors. In addition to technical training, Meris helps her students prepare for successful auditions and performances: her students have received solos and leading roles in a number of genres. They have attained entrance to college music programs, a capella groups, honors choirs, and other elite music groups and programs. Additionally, her students have won and placed in local and state-wide competitions including NATS auditions and the DMTA performance festival.
