Faculty Bio

Hello everyone! My name is Graeme Slonaker. I am a full-time musician and I recently moved to the Triangle area to pursue my Master's Degree in Composition at North Carolina Central University. During my time completing my undergraduate degree, I studied music pedagogy extensively. I have been given opportunities to travel the world and play concerts in front of thousands of people solely due to my music mentors and instructors. This is why it is important to me to give others those same opportunities through music education. My training in the jazz idiom combined with my knowledge of classical disciplines and methodology allow me to teach a very student oriented lesson. This means that my teaching method is focused around the student’s goals. We will work together to combine his/her goals with the fundamentals of the piano. This will work to maintain a motivated and relaxed learning environment in both the studio and home. I have been spending my first semester at NCCU getting acclimated to the music scene in the area and I am excited at the opportunity to pass on musical knowledge to the youth in the area! I have spent my life dedicated to music and my years of playing around the world have led me to The Chapel Hill School of Music and Arts.
